entryway organization

I love the idea of everyone having their own cubby.  In my house Gordon would end up using mine.  Organization and him are like oil and water....I just keep trying because my inner self loves organization at all costs.

I love the idea of making every space attractive and organized no matter where you enter from.  Where you enter your home sets the tone.

  1. Some great pictures there.. But I had to laugh at the one titled "Small Space with lots of Cubbies" - our entire hallway would probably fit in just one of those cubbies!
There is a lot to be said for organised space in your entryway/hall. Especially when the space is very small, like ours. It's taken me a few years to get it really sorted out, but we finally have a good system.
I found a shelf, with right-angle brackets, which has a horizontal board across the bottom of those brackets - with 4 coat hooks. That's lovely and holds our coats nicely. On the shelf sits a wicker basket, in which we keep out-of-season hats and gloves - nice and high up, out of the way.
I finally found a unit to fit underneath the coat rack. It is square, with four cubby-holes, in each of which is a large cube basket. One each, for our shoes, with a spare for in-season hats, gloves, scarves etc.
To the right of this setup, a mirror hangs on the wall, at check-before-you-go height. It reflects light and looks attractive, so dual-purpose! To the left of the coat hanger/drawer unit, a double hanging hook, positioned lower down the wall, for small people's coats, plus a large, low-sided rectangular basket on the floor, to hold bags. Umbrellas are tucked in behind this, leaning on the wall (though they do tend to fall over, behind the drawers, but hey, it can't all be perfect!).
I would say that the hallway is the most organised part of our house!
Great photos - thanks for sharing. If I had a hallway that big, I'd love to adopt some of those ideas!

    1. Wow. I would like to see a picture of that. You should post one on your blog.

I think you can do a lot with small spaces when they are set up correctly. I also think that big spaces that are not set up right can be a mess. It is what you do with the space you have. =]

  2. Ooh, I can assure you that little spaces not set up right can be a mess too! I should know - I'm an expert at this! None of our rooms are very large... the place with the most available space is the kitchen and even that has its messy spots.
I think, in a previous life, I must have been a magpie, as I hoard stuff. My husband and son also seem to have this personality trait, so there's not much hope for us really. We don't "do" Minimalism!
(sorry, deleted and re-did comment - spelling fail! - I'm a bit OCD about spelling.)

    1. Yes, that is what I was saying that spaces small and large can be difficult when they are not set up correctly. You CAN have a large space that is not efficient as well. That was all I was saying. Sorry I did not make that more clear.

You do not do minimalism...too funny. I am definitely not a hoarder but I am not a minimalist either...I wish. It does make it nice that I move so often and so I can't collect much. AND it helps that we live in the Bush and no roads connect us. I order a lot online and have to pay shipping. That really cuts down the intact in our home. =]

Just from reading your blog I am guessing you have a cute cozy little home. I imagine it to be warm and welcoming. =]
