project monday: my process

I have a moleskin journal for decorating my apartment.  It holds everything I need to plan and execute my decorating/organizing plans.

I set goals for the room and map it out.  This sketch never shows exactly how the room will eventually turn out but I normally come close.  It keeps me focused and I need that.

Define Your Space
What will the room be used for?
What will the room store?
What is your color scheme?
Are you adding a theme, style, or main idea?

Define Your Budget
How much can you spend right now?
What will have to wait?
Can you pull from another room or storage to save some cash?
How many phases?  (Sometimes I come back to a room when I have more cash or time.  I plan it out to ensure that I come back with a plan)

A little piece of advice be realistic but not cheap.  It is important to incorporate pieces you love and if you go too cheap chances are you are going to add items that you do not love.  Rate things of importance before you start.  That way you know where to splurge and where to be creative.

I always add a few elements to each room when I decorate.
1. the color red
2. the color yellow
4. something funky

In my journal I also add magazine clippings of items and colors that inspire me.  I have journals full of just inspiration and I go back to them often.  I used to just throw away all my old magazines and the items that inspired me where just gone.  This allows me to come back when I am looking for ideas.

    1. I think you need to make it fun not painful. Shop for fun things to help you organize. Plan it out. You are like me we take time to digest things. Buy a journal just for this purpose, by some fun pens, stickers, cool magazines and start dreaming and then your vision will eventually come through and so will your follow through.

Remember when you started doing fly lady when you sold your house in Nevada???? You did great. You can do this.

      XOXO~L

  2. Good ideas!!! Reminds me of what Flylady said too...if you don't love it, don't put it in your space (I paraphrased).

The promise of new things and stationary products might just be enough ;-)
